Police Interceptor 89 Camaro
Asked by Dhiya Jul 01, 2020 at 02:51 PM about the 1989 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z Coupe RWD
Question type: General
I'm buying an 89 Iroc Z from a close friend. He claims it
was originally a police Interceptor. I see the speedometer is
higher than normal, but would allow me to validate his
claim?

Look for the RPO sticker that's usually on the inside of the glove box door or on the underside of the spare tire cover. That sticker will show all the vehicle's options. If it lists 9C1 it was a police car. I believe 9C2 was an undercover police car. Hope that helps! Jim
Dude! Thank you so much. Going to check it out this weekend. I will let you know. Appreciate the help.
You're welcome. Glad to help! Looking forward to hearing what you find out! Jim
No 9C1 or 9C2 anywhere. Anything look uncommon or rare? Still in love with the car.
After decoding all your option codes I see nothing to indicate that this vehicle was a police vehicle, sorry about that!! However, here's a list of options that I think are important for future reference when buying replacement parts: B2L=Performance Package, 5.7L V8 D6E=Gear Speedo Driven FE2=Suspension System Ride Handling GH3=Rear Axle Ratio 2.77 G80=Positraction K68=105 Amp Alternator L98=5.7L V8 MD8=THM 700 R4 Automatic Transmission NA5=Federal Emissions T93=Smoked Taillights UB3=Cluster UQ1=AM/FM Stereo UQ4=Bose Speakers U75=Power Antenna VAN=Assembly Plant Van Nuys, CA WW4=Appearance Package #4 41U=Primary Color Exterior Black 66C=Interior Trim Cloth Medium Beechwood I will say this, you have a very well optioned vehicle that was very expensive when it was new!! You might be able to get a copy of the original factory to Dealer invoice for your car by visiting GM Media Archives website. If your year is available, you can get it. They also have tons of information about GM vehicles over the years! Enjoy your Camaro!! Hope that helps! Jim
