McLaren F1 Variants

The LM was tweaked for the Le Mans Race and the GTR is an upgrade of the regular F1 the engine was remapped and some other stuff like an exhaust change etc
the GTR is the race version and the LM is the roadgoing version
The LM also produces 680 BHP instead of the normal 627. They increased the power after they reworked the aerodynamics and added the aero kit and rear wing. They did this in an effort to try and keep the car as lag free as possible. The results were a top speed of 233MPH and a 0-60 of 3.4 with added power and full race spec aero kit. The GTR is also typically a long tail version of the F1.
The wing and aero kit increase lag. There beneficial purpose is to increase downforce, not lessen drag.
The GTR is the race car for Le Mans and the F1LM was produced from that car hence the name LM, its just a GTR that has been played with to become road legal and only 5 were modded for the road
The LM stands for Le Mans. 6 LMs were produced in total, 5 customers cars were and 1 prototype XPLM that sits on McLaren boulevard at MTC. The LM is simply an official road going version of the 95GTR race car. By producing the LM for the road, gave McLaren the opportunity to use its blue print to homologate the 96Gtr for the following season. The 96 Gtr looked very similar to the 95 but front and rear wings were extended slightly. The LM is actually a better and faster car than its racing brother in many ways. 1. Shares the same racing engine and straight cut gearbox. The engine is not restricted through air restricted so has all of its 680bhp available. 2. Has 3 seats instead of just the 1 or 2 if the the Gtr has been road converted. 3. The LM is lighter than the Gtr as there is no need to fire extinguisher and air jack system. It also has a standard fuel cell and a more simplistic chassis wiring loom, all contributing to weight saving. 4. The LM suspension layout is based on a hybrid between race and road car making the ride a lot smoother and easy going for everyday use. 5. The end result..........Lighter + more power = more fun and faster
They are racing variants of the Mclaren f1. the gtr is available in long tail(full racing) and short tail(semi racing) versions and is a road car for the track. The lm is a race car for the road. both cars have the share the same high downforce kit, (except long tail gtr) but have different racing engine mapping, racing exhaust, different racing gearbox, the lm has a racing steering rack, both have extra light weight (different in total, long tail I believe may be heavier) and racing suspensions. The high downforce kit is an extra on the standard Mclaren f1.
