Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Went out to start my 2004 Durango 5.7 liter
gas  tried to start it and it made a loud
noise and didn’t start I turned the key
again and it started but now has a loud
repetitive tapping noise. Shut it down fast.
Not sure if I should drive it or have it towed
to a shop.

oil is good ? if it's a lifter from low oil; it's not going away I don't think , look for leaking oil , I don't think something like that happens out of the blue if the vehicle has been maintained well ,

Yes, it sounds like a lifter. There is no adjustment to the hydraulic lifters in that engine, as a matter of fact, I don't remember any Chrysler engine, built in the last 20 years, were the lifters can be adjusted. The lifter(s) must be replaced. Search for any sign of leaking oil like the advise above.
