My niece 1.8L turbo Jetta is dying. I've been
warned away from VWs.  Any suggestions for a
compact lightly used suv with manual
transmission. Thank You

I've read some answers so I'll be more specific. I loved the horsepower of my Jetta. I'd like to.sit higher off the road so thinking suv. I am single and I do some hauling of yard needs but have managed in the past so cargo space is not an issue. My Jetta was 2003 but I'd like something newer than 12 years old I have looked at the R A V 4 and VW Tiguan and Nissan and Hondas as suggested by my auto shop. There is just so much out there so I am seeking your input. Thanks

Tom, I have been researching for months. I know what you say is true. I guess I wonder if I have to ignore the VWs (as in Tiguan) or is the Honda better or Nissan? I've driven VWs for ages, but I've been warned parts may become unavailable in the future? Still...VW, Toyota, Nissan or Honda? I really have spent lots of time, but I am a consumer. I drive my vehicle until it won't anymore...so, I need help.

Tom I'm looking at no newer than 2015. Front wheel drive is fine, I made it through many MN winters driving with this. My auto shop suggested VW parts would get harder to find in light of their recent litigation and fine. I am seeking makes I recognize for long standing reputation for quality. I may be unrealistic but I'd like to stay under $15000. Thank you.
