how do I cancel an ad

Sign in to your CarGurus account. In upper right corner, click on Account > and look for your listed ads. Click on the ad you wish to cancel. When you open that listing, look for the button that says something like end ad, or end listing, or stop ad / listing, or something similar; it's been a while but it is easy to do if you can get to the particular car listing you posted.
