Speedometer doesnt work sometimes..WHY????

Its an 03' k1500 with 50k miles on it

it is electonically controlled. You might be having an issue with a faulty speed sensor.

I would get a new speed sensor, but you may also want to check your relays and fuses as well. Speed senors are just a laser beam that it usually located near the tire areas, depending on the year of your truck that is. But yea, check your fuses and relays sometimes they are either blown or the relay is no good.

Check the wiring at the speed sensor. Sometimes connections open up or come loose. The speed sensor is connected to the transmission.

One key element is that when the speed sensor stops functioning the transmission will have shifting problems between gears

you are thinking of abs sensors. speed sensor is located in the side of the transmission. relay is a possible cause. fuse is not since the problem is intermittent.

my 1989 chevy does the same thing but i think their is somthing partly wrong behind the gauge cluster but when mine quites i hit the dash to get it to work

yea I know, I tend to talk out of my ass to much and etc etc ... wasn't sure where the sensors were located ty for tellin me. and it could be the relay, I can't think of anything else...

Mine does it also in an 88. I hit my dash and it works, when I get time I'm going to take the dash apart and se if there is a loose connection or something. I also have problems with the turn signals, ABS light, speedo, and shift light, from time to time.

My 1994 C1500,speedometer,heater switch both stopped working and at same time brake lite comes on...I hit the top of steering wheel a few times and it came back on..now it's doing it again but hitting it ain't working..??

Hey guys my 2004 silverado 1500 comes up with a code c0237 which is a rear speed sensor. I replaced both of them and checked the wiriing but the light is still on but only in 2 wd and in 4wd it's off I don't know why it would be that way anyone know

I recently replaced the speed sensor on my 94 Taurus, now the speedometer doesnt work. My transmission shifts real hard into 2nd gear. My speedometer worked fine b4 I replaced the sensor.

I have change my ignition my blinker switch speed sensor and my speedometer still don't work just got the transmission rebuilt the 4+4 is staying lock in 4+low just got it back in 2wd bout speedometer still don't work any help would be great thanks.

I have a 90 K2500 brake light on dash is lit full time. Speedo does not work (rare occasion it will flicker and bounce but nowhere near the actual speed) and the torque converter doesn't lock up at all. If I'm driving at freeway speeds and let up on throttle engine returns to almost idle by the sound of the exhaust (no tach).

i have an 03 Silverado it quit working around the same miles GM had a recall on them and was repaired at dealership for free and a lawsuit they would par for repairs probably expired now
