How do you lower the spare tire to change a flat?

It should be held in the center but a very large bolt that is attached to the under carriage. Also your owners manual will tell you exactly how to remove it.

open the back hatch and there will be a hole on the right side just above the bumper. there should be a bar under your back seat that looks like a socket on one end that fits into this hole and then turn the bar to lower and raise the spare tire.
