That broken belt powers the alternator which keeps the battery charged up. You got home by discharging what's left in the battery. Not to worry. Replace that belt and recharge the battery and it should be good as new. Just be sure to fully recharge the battery with a battery charger. Recharging a dead battery with the vehicles alternator could burn it out.
