'03 saab 9-3...When I hit switch to turn on high beams..the headlights totally go out...

HELP PLEASE>>>>> On the way home from work, the check engine light came on, then I noticed the temperature guage was running low. So I thought I could hurry up and make it home. When I turned the dial on the dashboard to 3 o'clock position as usual. I clicked on the high beams and the lights totally went out...... The low beams work but not the high. Can Anyone please help!!!!!   I AM IN DIRE NEED!!!!   THANKS

OK here's what I found out.....Took it to get a code check, the code came up P0116. This is the thermostat that is bad. Also the lights started working on their own... Once the thermostat is replaced, just need to have computer reset.
