brake caliper sticking

Asked by Prinhydro Oct 07, 2019 at 11:55 AM about the Ford Escape

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ford dealer is telling me front brake calipers are sticking and need to be replaced.  Car sat for extended period and I believe sticking is due to rust that will be removed if calipers are exercised.  What do you think?

if the car sat for a period of time, I would change them. for me it's of a safety issue I don't think rust would cause the calipers not to work...good luck...

If bled incorrectly after a brake pad change impurities can enter the system and cause this problem of locking up or seized calipers. Have the system bled correctly and replace the calipers.

You could bleed out the old fluid and try. Use the method where you pump the brakes for a helper under the car.

Just make sure it is bled correctly. Not just by loosing the bleeder screw on the caliper forcing out fluid and tightening the screw before you release the brake peddle from the floor. This is not how it is done correctly at all.
