Sounds like a sensor/solenoid/ electrical connection in the transmission, possible others, like loss of fluid ect.
Gearbox fault in a Jaguar sounds very expensive.
Try to have a parts house use an ODB-II scanner and get any codes that come up. With this you can determine the exact problem
My 02 Jaguar x typ will not go in reverse but every other gear works fine
Hello can you help me, I put my Jaguar X type 4WD Petrol 2.5...... away 2.5 years ago in the garage and it was left in "P" park and the battery was supported by a constant battery charger, so the battery never went flat, when I have come to re-use it I tried to start it and it came up gearbox fault, and just wouldn't start, I was told the battery was at fault as it didn't support enough power, so I bought a new battery 72Ap fully charged and its just the same, is there anything I can do as I am a little ignorant on this Jaguar car...kindest regards John Lomax
