Doesn't sound good . Do some testing before you go and buy parts you don't need , Could be a bad thermostat or radiator cap if you're lucky . Does it turn over ( crank ) ?

This sounds serious, I'm thinking blown head gasket. As it has fully shut down the only thing to do is to run a compression check on each cylinder, if coolant comes out of any spark plug hole, then for sure it has blown a head gasket. 2002 it might not be worth fixing.

Also check for spark. The ignition coil(s) or ignition control module could have fried from the excessive heat or being splashed with hot coolant. Jim
