I have a 1973 VW Westfalia with an Automatic Transmission won't shift out of neutral. Any suggestions?

1973 VW Westfalia. It's an Automatic, not an autostick. It has the engine pulled and has been sitting for a year in a covered barn. When I try to shift into park or any other position it won't move.
