Cleaning off a 71 Torino 500 motor the sticker on the valve cover and the air breather say 302. I was told it was all factory. Any chance it came with a 302. It has 70884 miles no rust and straight body. Just needs the hood and grill fixed.

Look at the VIN, if there is an "F" then it came with a 302.

I had a 72 with a 302. it was standard that year I think. sorry doesn't help with your quest. just missing the old girl!
The 302 was a 4.9L engine, but the 500 probably referred to the Ford Fairlane 500 that it was commonly referred to as. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Torino
Thanks for the info. I'm a Chevy man. haven't messed with a lot of fords other than body work. I would be willing to trade for a Chevy or Dodge If it is clean and no rust. I don't want a car full of patches.
Passed a speed limit sign on way home in AL. Speed limit 65 and under it a sign that said "Chevy do you best"
