Did I seize my engine?

Asked by Guru9DLY93 Nov 05, 2020 at 02:07 PM about the 1994 Chevrolet Astro

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Had an issue, I drove about 30 miles round trip and
around the last five miles started to smell what I
thought was my brakes. I made my turn onto the final
stretch home and my vehicle died, it was sputtering
and high pitch idling before hand. I thought I could
make it home because of how close I was. Now my
vehicle isn't turning over when I go to start it. I put oil
into my vehicle now and my engine is reading a good
level. I'm in the process of changing my spark plugs
and charging up my battery. Has anyone out there had
a scenario like this? Did I ruin my vehicle or is it fixable?

Was the engine out of oil? If so you probably damaged your engine.

You can try a jump start in case there is a dead battery. You can remove all the spark plugs to see if it will turn over without compression. If there was oil on the dipstick you did not run it out of oil.
