Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1995 Tahoe I just swapped motors in. Before installing the new motor; which
is out of a 1992 Chevy truck, I went through and put a new tune up in it. Plugs, wires,
cap & rotor, egr valve, oil and water pumps. Once I got it timed it ran ok. I was able to
drive it across town and back to where I did the swap.  After shutting it off when I got
there it started to run crappy. I'd pull up to a stop sign and it would die. The first time it
took almost 10 mins to fire back up then I'd put it into neutral to keep it running. It died
again so I figured it was out of fuel.  Still not the problem. While trying to time it at first
it was 180 off and backfired through the tbi twice and once through the exhaust. Made
it home and can't get it to start now.  I haven't checked any codes yet as I just got it
home today (11/9/2014)Any help is appreciated.

Small block Chevy's are super easy to work on. It really sounds like a timing issue but,if it backfired look at your fuel injectors make sure they aren't burnt.

ok i pulled the valve cover off and turned the crank by hand to 0 degrees. i pulled the cap and looks like it was pointed to the #6 plug when both valves on the #1 cylinder were closed. i pulled the dist. and rotated the oil pump drive to where now its pointing to the #1 cylinder. tomorrow i will get it back together as i work second shift and usually don't have much time to work on things before i go in.
