1969 Firebird coupe to convertible conversion.

Asked by cognito Oct 01, 2007 at 06:50 PM about the 1969 Pontiac Firebird

Question type: Car Customization

Is it possible to convert a 69' Firebird coupe to a convertible?  The convertible weighs about 250 lbs more than the coupe.  Did the frame in the convertible get modified to make it stiffer?  What differences are there in the basic car?

This has been tried and tried, but it will never work. The convertible frames in these cars got extra bracing to make them stiffer. I would not butcher a nice '69 Firebird, if it were me, I would sell yours and try to find a convertible that you like. Again, look around online, you will find most coupe-to-convertible "conversions" by individuals tend to come out looking horrible at best, and being horribly unsafe at worst.
