my tail lights wont work but my brake lights do on my 1986 nissan 300 zx.... suggestions anyone??

Reach down in the area of the brake pedal and find the "brake pedal position" switch and push on it, see if the brake lights come on then. If they do, the switch is bad. Google your year/make/model car and "brake pedal position switch" for specifics on how it works.
