Thanks it is nice to know there is someone out there! Is there a way to know if the engine is correct to the car, numbers one the engine? If so where would they be located?

The engine serial number can be found on the crankcase near the alternator support.... Should start with an F for a '66 model year type 1 engine

looking at the engine you see the generator with the belt on it rite under that on the engine case

Well they changed it somewhere in 66 they went from 6 to 12 somewhere in 66. But my Dad had a 63 that was a 12 volt, so really it's hard tellin.

the 66 was always 12volt your 63 was converted to 12 which was comin thing to do because the 6 volt was hard to start in winter lights were dim and radios didnt work

Actually the first 12 volt bug was the first 1500cc H 0 204 001 produced in Aug. 1966 for the 67 model year... Anything prior to 66 with a 12 volt system was converted :-\

Yep, that's a '66. 1966 was the last year of the sloping, double-glass headlights (in the US) and last year of 6 volts and the 1300 engine (only year for that), which madea respectable 50hp. My guess is by now that engine's been rebuilt, and it's most likely a 1600cc engine now. It could be either single or dual port-- check for single or siamesed intake manifolds. That's a great year for beetles-- last of the really old-school ones.
