can i disconnect the wires going into the dist & start the 4.0L 6cyl engine???

my 4 cyl jeep does not have any wires going to the coil in the distributor--my 6 cyl does---can i start the 6 cyl 4.0L engine with the plug to those wires unhooked ??   those wires are for the cam positioning--!

The 4-cylinder engines are set up differently. I'm not sure why you would want to start the engine without those, but even if it runs, your fuel economy will suffer and it may run rough, if at all. Leave the plug connected.
