Car makes "scraping" noise when turning

Asked by g83 Oct 31, 2008 at 08:05 PM about the 2006 Nissan Sentra

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i just recently crashed the sentra from the front into a sidewalk.. broke the front axle and messed up both tires which were all replaced... everything seems to be running fine but when i make a right turn (does not happen when i make a left turn) you can hear something scraping... nothing is dragging and nothing is leaking so im not sure what it could possibly be... any ideas are very much appreciated!

Your wheel is probably rubbing against the sidewall by your tire.

Turn your wheels all the way to the right, and see if you've got any rubbing. If not, take it to a mechanic you trust, and get him to check it out.

Is it when you are moving or stopped? Or all the time? Rack and pinion may be bent.

have a look at the plate over your front left brakes and bend it open

my sentra scrapes too on low speed and turning...i think its the brake calipers are touching the rotor somewhere...

Could be a bad CV joint on one of the axles as well, but definitely try bending the heat shield behind the brake rotor back a bit. While you've got the car in the air, try putting one hand on the top of the tire, and the other on the bottom, and see if you can wiggle the top & bottom of the wheel towards & away from you - if you find much play, I would check the wheel bearings & ball joints.

2007 Nissan Sentra. Check the right upper engine mount. Bad right motor mount causes rattle noise accelerating and turning to the right at low speeds. Noise comes from the right side bottom of the engine, and is between the right inner cv joint and the front final drive in the transmission.
