How can I tell whats wrong with my clutch on my 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac?

Asked by Nicole Apr 26, 2018 at 05:52 PM about the 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I got in my truck the other night, pushed the clutch pedal down & started the truck. I heard a loud winding noise which may or may not have been related to my problem. After the truck started the clutch pedal pressed all the way down to the floor almost like someone pulled it down. I turned the truck off and now my clutch pedal freely moves up and down when pushed. Also it does shift gears with the truck off.

Is there a way I can rule out one or the other? Or should I just replace both of them?
