My 06 Dakota has a new front drive shaft. Now I have to stop and put it in reverse to disengage 4WD. Anybody else have this ?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just replaced a broken front drive shaft on the 06 Dakota. The replacement won't
disengage unless I stop and put the tranny in reverse. Never had to do this before with
any of my 3 Dakotas. Is this normal ?

Hi are you doing this on dry pavement ?? does it do it in loose dirt or snow? ...// are your front tires the same size as the rears ...usually this happens on dry pavement that there is so much grip that it wont release the gears ...// its possible that the new shaft is so new and stiff that it is adding to this
