Overheating

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Sister has a 02 Buick century its overheating but
the radiator cap doesn't get hot... Replaced the
thermostat last yr I believe. There's cooliant in the
overflow an all that good stuff. Jus don't know
what could be the problem does anyone?!?

That means the coolant is not flowing out from the thermostat. Sounds like a bad thermostat. Take it out an test it in a pan of water with a thermometer. Should open at 195°.

When you say "overheating" is it actually hot ..... or are you getting a message on the IP or if the car has a temp gage is it showing hot. It could be just a bad sending unit.

Try a 180 deg thermostat. The 195 seems to run hot, also it's probably best to stick to genuine GM OEM replacement. The after market thermostats do not seem to operate exactly like the OEM.
