when trying to start my 1997 vortec engine, I get a grrr sound

When I turn the key, I I get a grrr sound. My engine is a vortec 6cyl

perhaps your ring gear is bald...or the pinion shaft of the starter~ or the starter solenoid is not going it's full stroke~...yep one of them things~

I believe it is the starter, as the ring gear is ok. So have purchased a rebuilt Bosch starter

check your battery, starter relay, fuses, ignition switch and connections before you do anything. are any lights on? have someone run a scanner on it also if you know someone? does it still start or you get nothing but a grrr sound?
