I would purchase a Haynes manual for your vehicle. Not only will this give you detailed step-by-step photo instructions, but it will give you other important information like how to safely disconnect the airbag while performing this procedure, which is a must. Also, any special tools will be listed. If you've never done anything like this, I would have the garage guys do it -- it's fairly involved in most cases to get the steering column apart far enough to replace these

The ignition switch on a Pontiac Grand Am is in the dash not the steering column I do believe. If it is in the dash, it is a hell of alot easier. Removal of trims and possibly the guage cluster will give you easy access.
