When people say speed sensors are they talking about abs sensors at the wheel?

I think they are typically referencing a sensor tied to your transmission that drives your speedometer. Wheel sensors are located on the wheels and control both your ABS and Traction Control systems. However, both are mistakenly used to describe both sensors and it depends on how knowledgable the person speaking is.
