Why did my power steering go out when there is fluid in the resevoir?

My power steering started making a noise and was a little difficult to turn.  Had the fluid checked but only a little" low.  The next day it went completely out but the reservoir is still full.

chass,you forgot to mention,check for leak,s and or gear box or rack pinion.

Sounds like it's time to replace the pump...
