Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2007 Lexus ES350 has over 150,000 miles.  I was told that the
transmission might be going out and the cost.  Should I replace it or get a new
car?  The car is Blue Booked about the same as it would cost a transmission
however, I have been told that this model has a long life.  Please advise...

If you are going to sell it your choice is pretty clear,. If you like the car and plan on keeping it you may want to go ahead and fix it.

Thanks for responding... I do like the car however, I'd hate to replace the transmission and then I end up just continuing to spend $$$ on repairs that come with a car this old and with this many miles... I had a Volvo that lasted 25 years! This is the first Japanese car that I've owned...

If you need a car that is dependable and you don't have a back up car you might want to buy a new one.

If you rebuild the transmission look around for a shop with a first class reputation as most are pretty dodgy in my opinion. I would also investigate what a Lexus dealer would charge and what warranty they offer.
