Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The car will turn over but not crank.  The fuel pump is coming on.  No spark
at coil packs.  I think it has something to do with the security system
(factory).  The security light is staying on when the key is in the on position,
the manual says that is a sign that the system is malfunctioning and take it to
the dealer.  This car has over 200K miles, can't afford to take to the dealer.
Can  the security system be reset somehow or disconnected.

I had a guy run the security codes and at the top of the list was a bad or faulty key. I had a new key cut and programmed and the car started. Yet it has still not started a couple of times and had to wait a few minutes and then it started. Who knows if it will last?

I have a 2006 Nissan Altima 2.5. Recently it was acting just as you described. After research, learned that a VERY common problem with these vehicles is the Camshaft Position Sensor/Crankshaft Position Sensor. Changed out both and vehicle started immediately. Did it myself, took about 30 minutes. (Thank you google and YouTube!!) Parts store wanted approximately $30-$50 each as they are the same Sensor. Ordered online. 2 Sensors for $32. My advice, order a couple extra. They go bad easy especially in hot climate. Sometimes last a week. Sometimes months. This was my experience with a very similar issue.
