Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Is there clearance between valves & pistons if
timing belt breaks on a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse
Spyder 3.0 v6. GTS

Yes it's an interference engine EXCEPT if you have the 3.0 SOHC 12 valve engine. If you have the DOHC which is double over head cam it's possible you bent the valves. Sometimes you can get lucky but can't really find out unless you replace timing belt and do a compression test or inspect with a digital inspection camara, it's a special camera that fits in the spark plug hole and check for damaged piston, if you can see where the valve hit the piston with the camera, most likely the valve got bent.
