2000 Lincoln Continental: Inability to use the key to open locked driver's door.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just got a 2000 Lincoln Continental.  However, none of the three keys will
open the driver's side door when it is locked.  Is there a way to fix this?  The
keyless entry code system is not working either.  The key fobs work to open
the locked car but I would like to be able to use key to gain entry if and when
thta becomes necessary.  Thoughts?

Mechanic advised me that previous owner's lack of using the key might be the problem and suggested spraying WD-40 or other lubricant into keyhole and try key repeatedly. After two or three applications of WD-40 and attempts to use the key, two days later the key started working and has been fine ever since.
