Fan kept running after engine shut off

Asked by Idda Nov 07, 2023 at 06:24 PM about the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I went to Bible study and cut off engine, but fan kept running.  I had only driven about 5 miles and the weather was in the 60s.  The fuse was removed to stop it.  When it was replaced, it worked fine for the rest of the day. But, the check engine light was on.  The dealership did a code check but it didn't identify a specific issue.  Car works fine.

If the check engine light was on then that is why the fan was running, never go to the dealer, all they want is your money, they will charge you a diagnostic fee and say they didn’t find anything. This happened to me, while I had a warranty, took it to an independent shop and they found it right away, it was a thermostat that wasn’t closing all the way, after thermostat was replaced no more problems.

I have a 2016 malibu. The same thing happened to me. We d/c the battery to reset everything. Good to know it may be the thermostat or coolant temp sensor.
