Problem accelerating uphill

Asked by aztrish Apr 23, 2013 at 11:17 PM about the 2002 Jeep Liberty

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have had several incidents when I accelerate uphill where my tach goes up to 4000rpm
but the Jeep can't go over 50. Sometimes it hesitates and seems to lose power, but when
I let off gas it's okay, but still won't go over 50-55.  Don't have problem on flat ground.  Is
this a tranny problem or a fuel related problem.  Help me before I take it in for repairs!

hmmm...no check engine light?...anyways hook it up to a diagnostic code reader and we can tell that your EGR ain't working like it should.~

The check engine light has been on for three years. But when this is happening, it flashes, then when incident is over, it quits flashing but goes back to being on like usual. What is EGR? I am a lay person.

I Am Having The Exact Same Problem With My 2004 Nissan Pathfinder. Did You Ever Figure Out What The Problem Was?

Mine turned out to be completely worn out and shot catalytic converter. Runs like a charm after replacing. Caught by engine codes, sent to exhaust specialist.

If it's the catalytic converter, would it fail an emissions test?
