1996 Explorer XLT V8 Power Window Problems

Asked by Michael Jul 16, 2010 at 03:22 AM about the 1996 Ford Explorer

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My power windows will only go up or down from the drivers controls.  I took the door panels off and it does not seem to have power at the passenger switches.  I did switch the window lock back and forth because the markings have faded and im not sure which is locked but no power either way.  Does anyone have any suggestions on where i should start my search.  Im not extremely savvy with electrical.  Thank you in advance.

Will changing this effect the passenger door controls? It seems the driver window controls are fully functional.

I am assuming that the switches on the 3 other doors are not working to roll the windows down, yet you can roll them down from the master switch on the drivers door. The power for the other three switches are supplied from the master switch. Since your model is equipped with the "lock out" function, my best guess is that the lock out switch is bad. I am fairly sure that it is all part of the master switch, and will have to be replaced together. That is where I would start.
