depends on what is actually wrong- if the owner does not want to deal with it, spend a few bucks ($60) and have it towed to a garage for an analysis ($80)- then you will know what you have to spend- bear in mind that anything major (like a new engine) will cost more than the car is worth- the best course, actually is JUST FORGET IT and look for something that already runs- if you are short of funds, you can possibly find an early nineties Corolla for $1500 that you can just get in and drive for years with no major expenses (for example)- look, these 21st Century cars are just disposable- you don't need to be recycling someone else's kleenex- really, get your head outta that "gotta save this car" mindset-
i got a new 01 Hyundia car died 3 years after paying for it car wouldn't run 25 repair places and 7 dealers could find nothing wrong with it. sat for 4 years in my yard, one day some one i knew had the some problem and fixed it i asked him what was the problem he told me to check fuel pump relay the relay had a bad connection do to getting hot driving it around after bending pins a little and putting it back in the car runs great never breaks down spend $2700.00 just to find out it was a bad connection with fuel pump relay
If you buy a used car that is running and something goes wrong, that's bad luck...but if you buy a car that is not running and it cost too much to repair ...that's very poor judgement. If it's dirt cheap, then it's a give-away. Remember, that nobody gives away a good horse.
