piston slap is it normal for a 2010 Sienna

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Toyota Dealer and Toyota Tech Rep say that piston slap is Normal on my now 40,000 mile Sienna, it has allways had this rattle when cold. The noice is getting worse as more miles are on the vehicle, what is it going to sound at 100,000? Has anybody had this problem? It does not sound like a professional answer from Toyota. I have it all in writing.

piston slap is indeed not normal in any engine, but some cars can have a valve clatter when cold, it takes the hyd lifters a little bit of time to get pressurized.

Thanks Jacob, Im very disapointed with Toyota I thought they were a responsible company. I have it in writing by 2 dealers and the Toyota representative that came out from North America head office to tell me that Piston Slap is normal. If anybody has any sugestions on how to deal with this problem, please let me know. I just cant belive that Toyota can put out a product that has a problem like piston slap. Thanks.
toyota, as of late has had quality control issues, something about the acceptable tolerance range being off on some parts, the piston bore of the engines being one... if i were you i would contact more dealerships, maybe even go over you local dealers heads, ive heard of people getting replacement engines under warenty for the same issues you are having. ive never personally heard of a toyota engine making noise and then failing prematurily ( other then one that was ran dry of oil that is) myself. but who knows, a new engine for free would be quite handy
