2000 Honda Odyssey major transmission problems.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I just bought a used 2000 Honda Ody. 142000
miles. Has wheel alignment issues but that’s not the
main issue. It has issues shifting at low speeds. This
morning I was going to work and it wouldn’t shift
out of first gear so I took the solenoid plate off the
transmission and cleaned the rods that have the
screens at the bottom, the center rod was very dirty
but the other two on the outside were clean. It had
another longer rod with no screen. I put it all back
together and drained the fluid and filled it back up
with three quarts that I got at the Honda dealership.
It shifts somewhat better but not well enough for it
to be functional. I need a miracle. I could replace
the solenoids but what I really think I need to do is
replace the transmission all together. Please
someone give me some options.

Another thing to add, when it shifts it sometimes shifts out of gear like it’s in neutral. I have to turn the car off and restart it to get it back in gear.
Wish i could give you an answer, im going through the same thing. What you messed with is the linear solenoid. But theres also a lock-up solenoid to the left of the linear solenoid under some wiring and and two more under the starter motor, not sure if those have anything to do with why it doesnt want to shift but i'll try anything first before junking this oddy. Hondapartsnow.com will show where these parts are located along with part #'s.
Well I switched out all the solenoids last weekend and it worked! I will be installing a transmission filter tomorrow and changing the fluid.
How much did it cost you to switch out all of the solenoids?
I have had this same issue. What I have found is ir is not necessarily the solenoids but more so the screen filters under the solenoids are clogged or almost clogged and need to be cleaned.
A lot of the time these vans have an issue with the torque converter not engaging at the right time due to the transmission Getting to hot.
Lacy, picked them up at local pick a part. I believe they cost me about $50. This was about a year ago and now im having problems once again.
