Clicking noise

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1999 Ford Windstar LX 3.8L V6 200hp,  a
very good van, just a little over 140000 miles,
when ever I step on the gas pedal I hear a clicking
noise,  my  friend told me it needs alignment, and
my father told me it involves the transmission, the
clicking noise comes from the front of the car,
almost at the front axle area, any suggestions? Is
this problem fixable?

I have a 99 windstar that started making a clicking and/or ticking noise which came from the transmission. I would be a low noise that would get louder upon acceleration either on idle or drive. It would seem to go way once it warmed up but would come back upon restart. It lasted about 3 weeks but eventually the o/d light flashed and the "check engine light" came on simultaneously. Took to autozone, got check engine code scanned, and was told it was the output shaft sensor (aka output speed sensor, vehicle speed sensor, etc.) I replaced sensor which was hard to do since the back of the sub-frame had to be lowered and removing the passenger side motor mount were necessary to remove and replace the part. However once done, the ticking sound took a day to go away. I'm guessing it took the van computer a while to diagnose that the part was replaced since I do not have a code scanner to clear codes. The clinking/ticking sound is gone since then. I hope this helps someone who may have a similar problem. Gook luck.
