could it be my transfer case?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

ok I was driving my truck no noise.... I turned left on my road when it sounded like something broke. I immediately took my foot off the gas (I thought it was my drive shaft) my truck is running fine in park and switches gears fine the only time it makes a grinding glass breaking noise is when the truck is in motion I jacked the back end up and put it in neutral and tried to spin the tires by hand but it was like they were stuck and making that grinding noise when I tried to spin them I pin pointed the noise to the front end where my drive shaft goes into my transfer case and I felt the transfer case while my friend tried turning the back wheels and the sound is coming from there I am pretty sure. but I don't know if its my drive shaft or what in my transfer case needs fixed. also when my truck is in motion it feels like is gets hung up on something until I push the gas then it makes that grinding noise and breaks loose....... does anyone know what my problem could be? I have a 2004 gmc sierra 5.3L 4wd z71

also I need to add that earlier that day it was hard to turn my wheels when I was trying to get out of a parking spot and only turned freely when I gave it some gas

Did you ever figure it what it was? My truck done the same thing but lost all gears, before that shifted just fine with a new trans

I’m experiencing the same problem with my 07 GMC Sierra 1500, I had both the front wheels off the ground and when I try to spin them by hand it moves freely for a second and then makes a clunk noise That sounds like it’s in the transfer case where the cv axles bolt up after the wheel moves 1/4 rotation and there’s resistance. Any insight would be greatly appreciated
