It sounds like u blew the engine, how much oil was or is in the vehicle? Did any warning lights come on before it did this?

Sounds like, unfortunately, it's time for another car.

You could have the codes read to get an idea what might have happened. Could have been a timing chain, at any rate "horrific knocking noises" are never a good sign. Someone sold you a lemon.

To me it sounds like u through a rod or a rod bearing in other words the engine is bad have it towed to a shop and have it looked at now if u bought it from a dealership and ur state has a lemon law and if it is actually a blown engine j would try to get the dealership to do the right thing if they don't then u have a case now if u bought it from a private party u more than likely Bought it "as is" and that my friend means u r basically up shit creek with no paddle.

i did buy it from a used car lot , so what do i say to them if they wont do the right thing ?

Contact an attorney who specializes in lemon laws here in NYS we have a lemon law however I don't know what state u live in so u will have to research ur states lemon laws if the state u live in even has a lemon law

Remember you have rights and the dealership is probably betting on that u don't know that so do ur homework on this one and don't back down from it, don't threaten the dealership with the lemon law just polity say okay and contact a lawyer

Most lemon laws are limited to 30 days. However, if they sold you a bad car/blown motor, contact your state's attorney generals office. Even the BBB might help (personally I hate the BBB but it can't hurt to put pressure on this company any way you can.) You also have the small claims court, filing fees are usually small (~$30) and claims are limited to a couple thousand dollars, but this option might give you the most leverage. Document EVERYTHING so you can prove your case. Should add: review your purchase paperwork and see what sort of warranty was implied (my guess would be none) but that doesn't absolve them from selling a car with a bad motor.
