Transmission

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

How do you check the transmission in a automatic
transmission 71 Ford pick up?

1 Answer

Take it to Ammco, that's what I did and they told me my Transmission works in 1st, 2nd, and reverse drive, but that the gear that controls drive needs repairing and they told me it would cost me out of pocket $2,600.00 for them to rebuild my Transmission. I contacted Ford directly and they told me that Ammco charges more because they can, and that it shouldn't cost more then it would to repair the damaged part without a complete rebuild. Six of one, a half dozen of the other. Do the math, I guess if you have your own tools and know how to work on autos then you have 90% of the work already done. I don't, so that's why I am selling mine. Hope my advice helps.
