Car wont turn over at all.

Asked by Keith Sep 01, 2024 at 11:48 AM about the 2004 Ford Crown Victoria

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The car hit a curb hard and went into a ditch.  The skid plate underneath looks
undamaged, the frame seems fine, the only damage seems to be to the rims
themselves and one of the tire rods.  The problem is the car wont turn over
now, at all.  When i crank the key i hear nothing. No clicking, no turning,
nothing. Any ideas?

Sounds like there is more damage than stated. Fords have a weak power distribution center, so if it got busted then nothing will work.

Check the underhood fuse box for damage. Remove and check the large MAXI style fuses. If any are blown replace with the same amperage. If the new fuse immediately blows you have a dead short somewhere. Probably a hot wire got crushed against a metal body panel when you hit the curb. Once you get it cranking, reset the inertia (fuel shut off) switch in the trunk. If you hit the curb hard enough for the engine not to crank I'm sure the inertia switch tripped as well. Jim
