Engine repair

My 94 gmc v8 truck was running until one day I
didn't check the water and apparently the pump
broke but I'm not sure if I need to repair the whole
engine or just the gas kits it was smoking when I
pulled over to check but I'm still not sure how
much damage was caused

I have the same problem.I think I have a blown head gasket. My oil looks like chocolate milk.
