Question type: General

Just trying to find out if my El Camino is an SS
because it has 57,000 original miles and would
be worth the original restore to me if so. I would
really appreciate some knowledge in this area or
how I can find out elsewhere. Thank you

All the El Caminos are worth restoring- go for it!! and hop up that engine so you can have El Malo Camino-

I am of the same opinion. I guess I should have worded my ? differently. I have checked the Vin code and my el Camino does have the original 350 with 56,000 miles on her, original bucket seats , 3 speed automatic transmission on the floor , although the paint job is not original and I believe it may be an SS I just don't know how to tell. Once I realized what the original milage is there isn't a question of whether to restore or not just need to know the ss? to decide if I will restore to original ss beauty or go all out custom beast. Any info on how to identify would be fly.

SS question. You will need the RPO codes If the glove box has not been changed you should find a sticker Look for Z15 Look under the seats there may be a build sheet stuck in the springs that is bible look for that Z15 code You can try this web site www.decodethis.com

Super Sport question: I have a 79 El Camino Super Sport. I bought it second hand at a Ford Dealer in 1983 with 67,000 miles, and a rapidly oxidizing repaint. I suspected that it was an SS, given the silver plastic SS on the dash of the passenger side. That wasn't confirmed until my son and I began customizing and rebuilding it a few years ago. We found the 'Build Sheet' under the carpet, under the seat. The sheet states that it is an SS, and that it originally came equipped with the SUPER SPORT decals on the side, as well as a 267 V8.
