Gas cap access door/ closing magnet mechanism

Asked by Guru9QX3MY Feb 26, 2022 at 02:22 AM about the 2021 RAM 1500 Laramie Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

During a 3 day freeze my cap was frozen shut as I needed gas. I had to pry
open the access door so I could gas up. In doing so, my cover/door will not shut
properly. I'm pretty sure I damaged the magnet when prying open. Is this a fix
from an auto parts store or dealer related ?

Sounds like you also might have also bent the hinge and or door itself. Without pictures we can only guess. An auto body shop, dealer service department or mechanic might be able to help.

My Dad did the same thing, would up needing to replace the actuator assembly and the a new gas door that required repainting to match the truck. He didn’t say how much it cost but he did say next time he will just hot water and blow it dry after it opens.

Since the vehicle is only a year old take it back to the Dealer! Depending on what needs to be fixed maybe they'll work with you and get it done under warranty. It doesn't hurt to ask. Hope that helps! Jim

Junkyard part. Don't buy new and get both the door and the magnet or switch mechanism Dealer cost will be high..
