I would probably say yes, it is time for a replacement. I highly doubt anyone would swap a defective auto CVT transmission for parts. CVT's can be repaired, but most times in a transmission shop, so most garages will purchase remanufactured ones from these companies. Have a trans mechanic or Mini mechanic look it over before you do. Will you be able to swap in a manual trans from the 2007? I would say yes. You would need the transmission, and clutch, the pedals and shifter and a new ECM and someone to install and program it all. But consider this, your car is worth $2500 in working order, so unless you really love your vehicle, doing the swap will probably be over $3K. Get some price quotes.
Cvt transmission's are junk watch a couple videos on them an you will understand why I say they are junk
You took your car to the wrong place I've heard bad things about that place it's a wonder they didn't break your car so they could charge you for work they created for themselves
