Where is the thermostat on a 2002 mercury cougar v6

My 2002 mercury cougar v6 is overheating, I changed the water pump but that wasn't it. I
want to change the thermostat but I don't know where it is. Any ideas what else it could
be and where is the thermostat located.  Also it went to HOT within 3-4 min.  The fans
are blowing but still no cool down. Any ideas??

it sits basically right beside the battery. There is a hose over it as well as the one it is in.
