Battery Light Dodge Journey 2016

Asked by GuruDD2R38 Oct 25, 2023 at 03:20 PM about the 2016 Dodge Journey SE FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The battery light on my 2016 Dodge Journey came on a couple of weeks
ago. Got my dad to test the battery and alternator everything was fine and
reset the battery function, but it came on again a day later. Our mechanic
tested everything and our battery light went off when we took it there, said it
was fine. A day later it comes on again and won't turn off, it turns off
sometimes if I stop and restart the car. The engine light came on a day ago, I
am not sure what's wrong. I thought it might be corrosion so I cleaned the
connections to the battery and after that both the battery light and engine
light went off. Until this morning, put it in reverse and battery light and NOW
airbag light went off.

That battery light isn't really a battery light, it measures battery charging and relies on a healthy alternator and conducting system to work properly. Whenever I've seen intermittent illumination, it's always pointed to an impending failure of the alternator. Get the charging system checked by someone competent, with proper tools for modern cars..... The reason all those other lights are turning on is that the computer is trying to deal with this unsuccessfully.
