Does the steering wheel lock when the engine switch is turned off (manual
transmission)?

I don’t believe so, on all the cars I have had and worked on the steering wheel never locked when the engine is not running, it only locked after the key was removed. But I have never checked a Mini Cooper.

This started happening when I hit over 200000 in response numbers.

Sorry if I was unclear and my question came across as inane. The car has a keyless ignition, so my question remains, does the steering wheel lock when the keyless ignition is turned off (button pushed). The owners’ manual doesn’t address it and it’s difficult to tell if it’s locked or simply hard to turn without power steering being engaged.
